Your Questions About Church Windows

Carol asks…

Does anyone know the name of this anime?

I have seen a few clips of a beautiful Anime a while back and I wondered which Anime it was.

It seems to be a Shounen-Ai anime. One of the characters had long hair (I can’t remember the colour).

I can recall a clip where there was a church or a building with a large stained glass window or some place with weird lighting, and there was alot of red roses. There seemed to be some blood as well somewhere in the anime…
It is possible that one of the characters had died…

Anyway…
If you do know what anime this is I would be ever so grateful if you could tell me so I can find out more info on it!

Thanks in advance!
Sorry about the vague description… I can’t remeber much about

Doug answers:

Is it yamino matsuei??
If the main character has violet eyes, then maybe it is..
Good luck finding it

Sandy asks…

My Heart is all for it but my mind is against it?

In my local Church which I attend (even though I am not a Christian) I when I take communion (they let me do that they are very nice) I see a stained glass window of Jesus in the last supper and my emotions say maybe this is the right faith but the mind buts in and says “no this is not what I believe” so why is the heart willing but the mind against it? so what can I do to fix this?

Doug answers:

Ask God to reveal the truth to you. If you are diligent and sincere you will find truth. Speak to the minister of that church and open up your thoughts and questions to him. Any elder of the church would be happy to help you.

Sharon asks…

The crazy man and the preacher?

During one church service whilst the preacher is up giving his sermon a man comes in and he’s all dirty and he has on these ragged clothes. He stands in the middle of the aisle and listens intently until the preacher mentions miracles. He then starts to rage “You’re a liar! You’re a liar! There are no miracles and you can’t do miracles! You are lying!” This tirade went on for about five minutes as he walked up and own the aisle until the preacher came down from the pulpit grabbed the man by the scruff of the neck and threw him through a stained glass window. He then turned to the congregation and explained “I may not be able to do miracles but I can cast out devils!”

Doug answers:

I wouldnt think of this as a joke. It would be under religion. But its good

John asks…

Christians why is this?

In my local Church which I attend (even though I am not a Christian) I when I take communion (they let me do that they are very nice) I see a stained glass window of Jesus in the last supper and my emotions say maybe this is the right faith but the mind buts in and says “no this is not what I believe” so why is the heart willing but the mind against it? so what can I do to fix this?
Any other advice

Doug answers:

I think it’s human nature to be skeptical of things we can’t see or explain especially since we’re brought up not to be taken advantage of by friends, businesses etc…. I believe that God understands this. The only thing I can suggest is to keep searching your heart and open it to the Lord.

Have you read “The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel? If not, then maybe you should. Also, The Year of Living Biblically

Blessings on your faith journey.

Donald asks…

Does this excerpt from my new novel sound good?

Before I can do anything else, those tall mahogany doors that I gazed upon, opened; not just to the inside of a grand church, packed with the noblemen, the wealthy, and the well educated but to an entirely new world, a new chapter of both great responsibility and glory.
There at the end of that isle was my future, destiny, whatever one might call it…, right there in front of the pope himself.
With that, I sighed, and somehow found myself to be walking down the isle.
How I got the courage to start walking down there will be a mystery to me.
My God, I though, that isle…that isle was long, and the sound of my boots echoed as they hit the marble tiles which gleamed colorfully because of the sunlight from the stain glass windows.
Everyone watched with anticipation, as I walked, it seemed like it would take me years to march up to the pope, but it only took me about a minute.
I stood there, thinking…, here it comes, the crown.
I kneeled before the altar, and I felt a large metal object be adorned atop my head.
I knew it was the crown, but I could not help in having some disbelief in what had just happend.
It was me that had stood before that door, it was me that had walked down that church isle, and it was me that had just had a crown placed atop his head.
Now, that time had come, for me to turn around, to turn around and face the people, my people.
The last time they saw my frail, young face, my green eyes, my brownish-blond hair, my nervous facial expression, I was just a lonely prince, but now they prepare themselves to gaze upon the face of a supposed King.
I am supposed to be the one, the one who they expect to lead them to glory, the one who they expect to keep their country strong and united, and the one who they expect to keep them from the hands of the treacherous and barbaric Arian Varvondians.
Such responsibilities make me even more nervous, people’s lives are in my hands, our whole civilization is in my hands.
Me, a young man of twenty-three, I can’t help think, will I succeed, will I conquer, or will I be conquered.
If we fall, it will be my fault, and my fault only.
My mind was clouded with these thoughts, and yet, I decided that it would be shameful for me to ruin such a moment with my worrying.
It is time to face my people, my problems can be solved later.
So, after removing every negative thought from my mind, I reluctantly turned to my people, and as soon they took a glance at my face, they cheered enthusiastically.
The clapping and shouting echoed through the church up to the heavens, the peoples praise and endorsements rang through my ears.

Dear Lord, it had just came to my mind that I, Prince Robert was now…, King.

What do you think, I think it needs alot of work, but I can’t put my fingur on it. What does it need and what needs to be improved, tell me what you think. Please be as harsh as much as you need to without being rude. I would much appreciate it.
Wow, thank you for the criticisms, I much appreciate it.

Doug answers:

It suffers from a lack of dialog and too much exposition. What you’re doing is trying to cram a whole bunch of information into places that don’t feel natural to the rhythm of the story. Your character is, from what I see here, supposed to be excited about something. So you want quick, direct language to convey the observations and thoughts streaming rapidly from the boy’s head.

A good trick is to read a book just before you begin writing. This way, the rhythm and selection of language will be fresh in your head when you begin writing. Here’s the first paragraph, cleaned up:

“Before I could react, those tall church doors suddenly opened to reveal row after row of wealthy, upturned faces that seemed to be ushering me towards this new chapter of my life.”

See how the language moves and the information doesn’t seem too squished together? This isn’t a particularly great sentence either, but it’s a little less choppy than the original. And what happens is we eliminate some extraneous information, but if you wanted to include some of it you could always do it later. Novels are very long, and you’ve got plenty of room to say everything.

Nancy asks…

Atheists: What do you think of stained glass Christian art in “secularized” churches?

If churches are converted into non-Christian business-related buildings (like they are in Sweden at the moment) would you be in favor of retaining the stained glass mythological imagery or replacing the windows with normal windows?

Doug answers:

Beautiful..

Donald asks…

Christians, if churches scare away sin…?

why don’t you declare the entire Earth a church?
Put a pulpit on the North Pole…
Have an organist on a giant boat in the ocean…
Put a pretty stained glass window by Niagra Falls….
Would that scare sin off the entire Earth?
Scare away the demons….

Doug answers:

Churches scare away sin?

Where did you get that wacky idea from?

Robert asks…

(ramadan) “Imagine No Religion” billboards…?

Lately, on my daily commute, I’ve been noticing some new billboards up around town. They show a stained glass window (like those in older Churches) with the words “Imagine No Religion”, sponsored by the “Freedom From Religion” group. Hmmm…

Now, being a Muslim, there is about a hundred things I could argue about when it comes to that point, but religion aside, I have a question for the “logic over religion” people.

What do you think would happen to society if there were no more religion? Not just Islam, but religion in general? If everyone believed that there were no higher powers, no consequences, no heaven, no hell… that when we died, it was done? Nothing more, nothing less.

As it is in the world, even with religion, people maim and murder. There are destructive personalities inside all of us. I think that given the understanding that there is no higher power enforcing a moral code upon us, the world would run rampant.

Who would stop themselves from their innermost urges of anger, lust, greed, etc, if there were no consequences to be had if they didn’t? What would be the worst case scenario? They kill themselves after they’ve done all their wrongs, then simply disappear?

These “Freedom from Religion” folks like to tell us that we are brainwashed, and that our religion is based upon ‘fairy tales’. What freedoms they exactly looking for? The freedom for the world to turn upon itself?
@abdulmalik: Thank you brother, it’s just part of my email address. I don’t claim to be more or less pious than anyone else. Salam.

Doug answers:

This might be kinda awkward but…Religions teaches right and wrong..and rules to live ….

If thr wr no rules….like once a great man said..we would be living in the trees flinging our Cr@p at each other..

Sorry for dirty words but…

Linda asks…

what do Mormons believe in?

what are the churches like? do they have dog-collar vicars? sacrament and hymns? organists and stained glass windows?

are they a sort of christian ? can anyone explain please :o ) x

Doug answers:

First, I hear Mormons claim quite often that they are Christian, because they believe in Jesus. Does that also mean that Christians are Mormon, because they believe in Jesus? I would hope that they would admit that there are some differences between our beliefs.

I would like to comment on the thirteen articles of faith mentioned. Not to put them down, but for clarification on differences.

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

What is not mentioned is how this is different than mainstream Christianity. Mainstream Christianity believes that there is one God made up of three persons. LDS believe in three Gods united in purpose.

3. We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

What is not mentioned is that this differs from the Bible. LDS believe they are restoring the gospel that was corrupted. Here is the gospel of the Bible:

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Notice – no laws or ordinances are in the Bible’s gospel. The things mentioned in the 4th article are great, but other Christians do not consider them part of the gospel.

Salvation also means a different thing to LDS than other Christians. They believe that because of Christ, almost nobody will go to hell. Salvation means to be exalted to a higher level of heaven.

Other Christians believe that we must accept Christ to escape hell.

5.We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

Other Christians consider all in Christ as chosen of God and able to preach the gospel
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

8.We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

Other Christians only follow the Bible. LDS pray for truth, while other Christians are encouraged to look for evidence to back up their faith. This is a fundamental difference.

Ruth asks…

What good does religion do for most of us?

O.K let me present my argument.
First off, there is the muslim terrorists who bomb people in the name of their god.

And if you think ‘oh, that doesn’t count because it’s not christianity’ remember hitler? Yep, he was a christian.
And i know that for some people, religion makes people happier and better people, but there’s not many.
And of course, religion starts wars. Remember the crusades? ‘Take the holy land back from the heathens’ etc.
And of course, there is always sick and homeless people needing help, when instead people give money to the churches so they can have a new stained glass window

So if someone can explain that religion does more good than bad, with good evidence, then I will change my mind.

Note: I am an agnostic, not an atheist, and am not trying to prove god doesn’t exist, just that the religious system is flawed.

Your Questions About Church Windows

Robert asks…

Does anyone know anything about this stained glass window?

Does anyone know anything about this stained glass window?

http://www.sxc.hu/photo/591694

It was taken in Scotland and an angel seems to be crowning knights who may have died. I think it is suggesting that they will be crowned in heaven. The faces seem to be very clear for it to be just random knights. Any info appreciated.

Doug answers:

I know not of the actual window itself, however it most certainly is a work influenced by pre-raphalite artistry. Your best way forward is to ask the verger of the church or your local library, for they will both have the original submissions to adorn the window. I would wager that the window is not an original in as much as old as the churrch, but a replacement. C11890-c1910. Lovely as it is!

Susan asks…

what can i use to do stained glass instead of Solder?

I have a large project and I dont think solder will be strong enough to support the glass. Any help will be appreciated!

Doug answers:

Many large leaded glass windows, such as you see in churches, actually have reinforcing rods soldered onto the back. It’s why so many have panels with long vertical lines – that’s where the rods ‘hide’. On VERY large installations, there is often a separate framework into which the completed panels are fitted, and which bears the weight.
The Stained Glass Association of America website has a useful manual – if you haven’t seen it, take a look at Chapter 5, ‘Structure and Reinforcement’, if it’s available yet.

Donald asks…

What contributions did John Knox make to the country of Scotland? Why did he smash the churches stained glass?

How did Scotland take on a leadership role in Europe in areas such as science, medicine and literature after Knox arrived on the scene and what did Voltaire say about Scottish advancements?

Doug answers:

At the opening of the 16th century, Scotland was still a feudal country with a corrupt church. Scotland was awakened to Lutheranism by Patrick Hamilton and George Wishart (burned to death for their faith in 1528 at St. Andrews) and John Knox. Knox was taken prisoner by the French in 1547 and forced to serve as a galley-slave. When freed, he studied under Calvin in Geneva, returning to Scolnd in 1559 when he launched the Reformation. He attacked the papacy, the mass and Catholic idolatry. The Catholic Mary Queen of Scots opposed Knox, but was beaten in battle and, after myriad plots, was beheaded in 1587 by her cousin. Knox consolidated the Scots reformation by drawing up “A Confession of Faith” (1560), a “Book of Discipline” (1561) and a new liturgy (The Book of Common Order 1564) and by translating Calvin’s Catechism.

Of Calvin’s Geneva, Knox said, “…the maist perfyt schoole of Chryst that ever was in the earth since the dayis of the Apostillis.” So that’s why he set about lifting Scotland out of the Dark Ages! His contempt for the corruptions and doctrinal errors of Catholicism contributed to smashing stained glass windows and Catholic images. He was out to free people from superstition and from holding the priesthood in awe. He believed in the priesthood of all believers. Because the Bible was being printed in people’s native tongues, education took a huge leap forward and Presbyterianism became famous for providing education for children, especially for poor children.

Voltaire came much later on (1694-1778) and contributed to the French revolution with his philosophies. He believed God is to be adored and served – not argued over or made the object of institutional religion. He attacked the church with remorseless wit, seeing nothing in it but deceit and corruption. I don’t know what he said about Scottish advancements, but it must have been a wonder to behold the progress in science, medicine and literature due to the Reformation and the breaking of the stranglehold of Catholicism on the people. If only France had followed Scotland’s example, there would not have been the horrendous bloodshed of the French Revolution.

Charles asks…

How can I tell my parents im atheist when they are very religious?

You know as a kid they took me to church and stuff but now I just dont belive in that stuff…. Ive seen some stuff and lived some stuff, how can I tell them ?

Doug answers:

You don’t I learned the hard way. If your an atheist and live with religious parents just keep your mouth shut and keep your thoughts to yourself.
I know it sounds like cowardice but being an atheist I’m sure your atleast a little rational and are able to evaluate the benefits versus the consequences of proclaiming your beliefs . If you want to take a chance of severing your relationship with family then you should consider what you will feel like if they disown you. If a mormon knocks on your door you can tell them your an atheist all you want but you can’t get away from your parents like you can the bible thumpers so you’ll just have to deal with it sorry .

I’ve was an atheist back in the 10 grade and was very outspoken about it in a rather small close minded redneck town in Appalachian Pennsylvania country and I lost alot of friends over it and made a few to. I find it’s easier to keep it to your self and if someone confronts you it’s best not to even let them know. If someone asks “are you saved by Jesus?” I just shrug my shoulders and casually say “uhh yeah sure” in the most unassertive and least concerned way that way they realize I can care less about there imaginary friend.

It’s best that you don’t involve your parents.Every Christmas and Easter I go to my parents and I go to church so I don’t seem like a party pooper so I go all dressed up and I sit in the Catholic church and look like an ahole because I wont sing and I wont walk up to the celibate closet homosexual priest and eat his bread and and say “amen” I enjoy looking at the sculptures and stained glass windows that cost a few million dollars however lol. Religion can make people do crazy things so just keep your mouth shut and if you can’t just say you doubt god but not that you actually disbelieve in god. You will probably find a little circle of friends that are atheist and you can confide in them but watch who you talk to about it. Many superstitious believers feel that if you don’t believe in god then you are attacking them.

George asks…

A dream of a perfect stranger?

I had this dream a few nights ago. I was in a long drawn out dream that seemed very day-to-day (as in my normal life). In real life I work at a performing arts theatre and in my dream i did as well. The difference is it wasn’t where I work now. It was a beautiful old theatre with many windows in the back that let in a lot of light. balcony… it seemed to be a renovated church. It had a huge stage and side and backstage area. there was a cove about halfway back along the south audience wall. I was having a stressful hard time in my dream shortly before a performance was about to start. It was a daytime performace and the performer was a group of magic and illusionists.

Most of my dream is difficult to remember. The audience was very “tough” and it was only about half full. at some point they boo-ed one of the performers offstage and I rushed to his aid. He was hiding in the “cove” space. There were ten or twelve stairs that led up to a stained glass window. (I don’t remember what was on it) and he was about halfway up facing me crying. He was the most beautiful stranger I have ever met in my life. there were some random left over stage items behind him. Ones that were worn out and dusty. He looked at me and all I thought was i need to hug this person and so I did. and then we kissed and it was an amazing emotion…we were both crying (joyfully) and couldn’t stop kissing.

So after this “kiss” i was sitting with him and some of the performers in the balcony. The show was over and he smiled at me very graciously and said “i have to get out of this place” then I was filled with dark sadness and began crying again. at which point he and his people were gone and I was left at the theatre.

I woke up with lots of dried crying flakes on my eyes so I know I was crying in real life too. I have to admit even though the dream was quite sad I really felt a whole hell of a lot better and had a very positive feeling all day.

So help me conquer my inner psyche and why was I dreaming about making out with a beautiful stranger.

Thanks ~ X

Doug answers:

The answer can be so simple; And yet, I am afraid it, very well, may be totally wrong for you in that I don’t know that much about your real life. ……… But here goes….! You love the theatre, in that your feelings are very dramatic. You have very strong feelings of wanting to love and be loved by another person. Finding that special someone and loving him or her desperately and dramatically is your desire..! You haven’t found that man or woman whom you crave to express your life and love to….! Very, very sad for you…….. And yet the future holds great promise for you and the recipient of your love.
May you receive the answer to your dreams…. Very soon…!

Becoming a CATHOLIC!? Wrong decision!?

Ok, soooo. Basically I want to become a Catholic. When I go inside the Church, God touches me. He’s there. I smell Him, hear Him, touch Him, and see Him. I feel…”at home” and at Peace. I feel relaxed. I sit there and pray. I’ve sat there two hours straight looking at paintings and stained glass windows. It’s the most amazing, beautiful experience I’ve ever had. Surprisingly, my mom has said she was going to TOTALLY Support me in my choices, so that’s great. I may talk to a Priest tomorrow. For weeks I have researched the Catholic faiths, and read MANY MANY books. And I feel this, I’m not doing to be cool, or to make someone else happy, or because I have Catholic family (Even though I do!) I’m doing this for ME! Since I’m only 14 do you think it’s a good idea?! I’m going to no matter what! But what do you think!?
AND BY SMELL HIM! I MEANT THE INCENSE! HE IS THE INCENSE FOR HE IS THE CHURCH! AND I TOUCH HIM, BY THE HOLY WATER, THE SEATS, THE DOORS, EVERYTHING IN THE CHURCH IS HIM.

Doug answers:

That’s wonderful!!!! I’m very happy for you!!! Welcome to the family!!

atheists: would you object to your tax money being spent on a flying cathedral?

basically what the church should do is ask the government to spend $500 on an airbus a380 that acts as a flying cathedral complete with stained glass windows, pews and all, imagine how awesome that would be, to have the full mass complete with organ and altar while flying around the world at 35 000 feet.
sorry i meant $500 million obviously you cant get an airbus for $500

I object to my tax money being used for any religious affiliation and/or purpose.

Michael asks…

Can a true Roman Catholic answer a question for me?

All of the ceremony – the sitting, standing, kneeling, recitation, genuflection, oils, incense, candles, stained glass windows, etc. Is that in the Bible, or is that something the RCC made up to make Catholics united in something unique?

Doug answers:

Liturgy is not only bible-based. The Catholic church has a traditional, customary liturgy.
For the Catholic Church, the idea is that a catholic from everywhere could go to a church in everywhere else and be home, that’s the reason that the ritual practices are supposed to be unified.

Why do christians fear science?

If you believe God created the world, it’s reasonable to ask, How did he do it? What were the forces and mechanisms he used? Why not look to science and see that he started with the big bang, the force of gravity, inflationary cosmology, quarks and natural selection. Those were his tools. To that extent, science is not a threat, it’s your best friend. It’s the best tool you have for illuminating the grandeur of creation. A Hubble Space Telescope photograph of the universe evokes far more awe for creation than light streaming through a stained glass window in a cathedral. I mean, come on, that photo is an actual representation of the reality that God created, if that’s what you believe. So why not embrace science rather than fear it?
emphasis on IF THAT’S WHAT YOU BELIEVE. Now it happens that I don’t, I just think the universe is a fascinating and beautiful place on its own, without having to invent a god as well

Let’s see….because it makes SENSE?

Chapter 1 – The Concept

It was late winter. My legs labored to turn the pedals on my bicycle as the frigid air bit into my cheeks and knuckles. I cursed myself for leaving my hat and gloves at the bar the night before. I rode slowly, steering with one hand while warming the other in my pocket until frostbite forced a switch. It didn’t matter how cold it was. I needed the work. My stomach reminded me that it needed food, real food. It was tired of stale crackers and cheap beer. I rode on through the frost.
I rode my bicycle everywhere. I even fashioned leather saddlebags over the front and rear tires to carry my essential tools. I was the only carpenter I knew without a truck. Yet with two bags of basic tools, I could accomplish almost any job. From that, I felt some pride. I pedaled quickly past a busy construction site and endured the jeers from workers dressed in expensive coveralls, laughing at me as they leaned against new trucks, sipping their hot drinks. The aroma of fine coffee made my stomach grumble. I thought of my situation and felt a bit angry.
I wondered if I was a loser. Success meant having things like a good job, a wife, a home, kids and pets. I was over thirty and had none of those. I didn’t even own a car. But I took pride in limited needs and thought the world would be a better place if more people were like me, common and somewhat content. T-shirts and jeans filled the closet in my apartment, and I liked it that way.
Certainly I wasn’t a success. Was I a loser, though? That was a good question. The thought was going through my mind as I pulled up, hungry and half-frozen, to his driveway for my first meeting with Webster Adams.
Adams hired me as a handyman. He got my name from his neighbor, an elderly woman who had employed me in the past. He came out to meet me in the driveway, walking quickly in the brisk air, wearing a collar shirt and slacks. He was taller than average and thin. He appeared to be in his late fifties. His hair was black and wavy, mixed with streaks of gray. He had very blue eyes.
Adams smiled awkwardly as he surveyed my bicycle. Then he stuck out his hand and shook mine.
“Your hand is freezing,” he observed, gripping mine harder than I wanted, not sensing the pain of near frostbite that I was experiencing.
I smiled and replied, “Pleasure to meet you, sir. I’m Jon Gruber.”
“Interesting transportation, Mr. Gruber. Especially in this weather.”
His look was one of admiration and concern. I suspected he was deciding whether he had made a mistake in hiring me.
“Gets me from point A to B,” I said, disconnecting the front leather bag. I slung it over my shoulder, hoping to instill some confidence in Adams.
He led me into his house. The entry had a cathedral ceiling with stained glass windows that filled the downstairs with an array of colors, like walking through a rainbow. The wooden floor was finely polished.
My footsteps echoed softly as I followed him down the hallway.
“Should I take off my shoes?” I asked. Adams shook his head no.
On the walls hung dozens of photos of the happy family: man, wife and pretty daughter. The girl instantly caught my eye. Auburn hair, easy smile, fit and smart. She had the girl next door look that I was naturally attracted to.
The stairwell was filled with astronomical works of art, paintings of planets, nebulas and constellations. Things I knew nothing about. Adams paused briefly on the stairs as he passed the largest of the paintings, a planet with a purple body and half-finished blue rings around it. It was a lovely piece of work, though I wondered why it was unfinished. He stared at it for a moment, then continued up.
The top floor was immaculate, with marble counters, leather couches and a plush carpet that led to a stone hearth and fireplace, where a small fire crackled. I looked around at the trophies of a successful man and wondered if I would ever have those things.
“I want to tear down this wall that separates the kitchen from the great room,” Adams explained. “The idea is to make it one big space.”
“I can do that.”
“Everything?”
“Yeah.”
“How would you get the materials here?”
“Delivery.”
“What would you recommend?” he asked.
I imagined the finished product and said, “I’ll rip out the wallboard and the studs to here, then frame a bar that stretches toward the middle. Then I’ll rewire the electrical, texture, paint and whatnot.”
He ended by saying, “I want it to be done well, Jon.”
I answered with a promise that n

Your Questions About Church Windows

Daniel asks…

What do ya think of my story and do you have any title ideas?

Sorry for any miss spelt words!!

It all happened on a cold winters night. I was lighting the candles throughout the church. A sudden strike of lightning startled me as it began to pour. The harsh winds outside whistled around the room leaving an eerie noise to echo around. The winds blew the window open, darkening the church.
I walked towards the window. The once vibrant stained glass window is now bland and bleak. A cold chill ran down my spine as I touched the ice like steel. Something didn’t feel right.I started to close the window. The screech from the rusted hinges ran throughout the church halls. Once I closed the window the screech continued. In shock and disbelief, I ran desperatly toward the old haunting doors.
Something crashed through the window above the doors. It pushed me over as shards of colours came flying at me. I dare look towards the beats which causes my fear. the pure shriek from the beast blinded my screams and pleas for help. I quivered with fear as I struggled to get away. I slipped on the many shards of glass on the cold marble.
I was meters away from the large doors but couldn’t move for many of the colours sliced into my flesh. As my last scream exited my lips I was lifted off the ground, through the roof and high above. The lights around the small country town started to dim as it got closer to midnight.
Then as I hear the last deafning screech from the beast I plumited to the ground, through the roof of the church and as I hit the ground everything was swallowed by compleate darkness.I wake drowning in my own blood. I can just see the beast as it dips down and into my chest, tears my heart our of my chest. For the last few seconds I see the beasts beak pierce my heart. A rush of gruesome darkness bleeds out and consumes my sight. Living in forever darkness.

Btw this was all produced during my maths class!!
lol

Doug answers:

OK will its more of a short story i would make it longer if u wanted it to be an actual story and try to be really specific and i could imagine it. If you find out later in the book what the beast is i would name is (whatever the beast is called) lets say it the scourcerer? Then name it The Scourcer (sry for spelling) or if you dont find out what it is name it The Beast. If it’s an important part of the story i mean. But dont name it after the main charicter thats too plain and unoriginal. Name it something unique something that grabs the readers attnention but doesnt give away what the story is about. Like THE HUNGER GAMES you wounder what thats about and its not like The life Of Katniss, because thats too blain and the hunger games is a huge part of it. Grab the readers attention with a title that will pull them in

Sandra asks…

why is sunday for religon?

Is it a coincidence that egyptians worshipped the evil sun god protrayed as one eye – like above the pryamid on the back of a dollar bill and that we worship whatever our respective gods are on SUN – DAY. in some churches you’ll even find stained glass windows with the one eye symbolism. Has the illuminati been influencing all of our religions since ancient times to divide us? united we stand divided we fall… ?
use this information to find hiddening meanings in tv commercials, coprorate logos, entertainment, etc…
pyramids, one eye, 13/33, checkered floors or walls, two pillars or gates signifying light and dark, pentagrams.. I am being creeped out by our world leaders and hollywood and everything i’ve ever known.. ITS ALL EVIL!

Doug answers:

No all religons worship on Sundays.

Laura asks…

Please help me I’m very angry at God?

I really really needed God to help me with something very serious and important, but He didn’t. I am so angry at Him for not helping me. I always thank Him and I never ask him for anything unless it is super important. I pray for others and try to be a good person. But since he didn’t help me it’s like I am so mad I don’t even want to talk/pray, there is a church I drive by with a stained glass window of Jesus and I always say “Hi Jesus, I love you!” but now I turn my head.

Why did God forsake me

Doug answers:

I am a Christian, and I do believe in God and Jesus..I know what I say will be contrary to what you believe, though.

I think God made humans in the beginning, and then left us alone to be able to learn from our mistakes and our experiences. He does not interfere with man and allows man to do what he wants, and that is why we are in such a mess today….for man is not capable of handling things himself. Actually, man IS capable, but just won’t do it, out of greed and lust and other things.

Anyway, if God was to step in and help someone, He would then have to do the same, for the other 6 billion people on the planet..in all fairness, right? And also for all the people who have been on earth since the beginning. You know that didn’t happen, since there has been wars and fighting going on for thousands of years.

God wants us to grow and become independent and if He helped us each time, we would not learn anything, we would be like lazy people in a welfare line, waiting for food and clothing and shelter…we wouldn’t have any cars, or computers, or anything….since we wouldn’t have any knowledge.

You see, God HAS to leave us alone…we need to grow…we need to take care of ourselves….so we cannot go around asking for this and that and this….because, with 6 billion people on the planet, that is a whole lot of this and that’s.

Without sickness, disease, hunger or any problems, we would have a decent life…but we would be TOTALLY dependent on God, and for that matter, we would be …just animals.

So don’t be too hard on God, when He is only doing what He knows is best for us, and that is …leaving us alone.

Think of your parents, if they did EVERYTHING for you, fed you, put your clothes on you and even carried you so that you didn’t have to walk…they would put you on the pot, and take you off, even at an age where you could do it, but hey….they want to do it for you….

What would you then learn ? Nothing. So they are doing you more harm then good….and that is one reason God will not intervene in our lives…..What God wants, is for us to have faith when we need it the most…during trying times….like a soldier in a battle, if the soldier gets weak during the rough times, he is no good to the army. And so, faith is like that….when it needs to be the strongest, is when we usually push it away, because things don’t work for us.

Faith needs to be strong when we aren’t.

Ken asks…

What sentecnce do you like better…for my book?

Ok, so I just asked about my setting which is Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

I wrote this small sentence before I had a setting in mind and it sounds like it’s set in London.

The church was placed right in the centre of town and its tall stain glassed windows were a talking point among tourists.

So do you think I should change it to

The church sat right in the heart of Edinburgh and it’s tall stained glass windows were a talking point among tourists.

Thanks
Shaz x
Sorry about the typo in the heading, it should read SENTENCE lol x

Doug answers:

As pretty much EVERYONE else has said: Go with the second.

The first is too general and seems like a mouthful for some reason. It’s also in passive voice.
Just in case you didn’t know, Passive voice is when the action is on the subject instead of the object:
Active: The ball hit me in the gut. Passive: I was hit in the gut by the ball. Active voice is better for a story.

But remember: “it’s” is a contraction for “it is”; “its” is what you’re looking for, showing possession.

Hope this helps!

Steven asks…

Should I do as the vicar demands?

A couple of days ago, I was pottering about in the belltower of the mansion when I came across my old catapult machine. I dusted it off and thought it would be rather fun to try it out again. So, I got one of the pig carcasses from the chiller and loaded it on.
Now, I didn’t expect the catapult to be so powerful. The pig travelled some 200 yards in the air, going through the stain-glass window of the village church and breaking a coffin lid, during a funeral. I have now received a letter from the reverend, demanding £8000 for a replacement stain-glass and a written apology to the mourners, who bore witness to a pig assaulting their departed loved one.
Is this fair and reasonable under the circumstances?

Doug answers:

Outrageous, and after you supplied the pork for the service.
